Rayman Redemption – Full list of secrets (English)

Guide of all unlockables (levels, skins, achievements, etc.), cheat codes and easter eggs.

Note for French readers: c’est mon premier article en anglais ! Ceci est la version anglaise de mon guide des secrets dans Rayman Redemption. Voici la version française.

Hello there fellow plum riders! This is a list of all secrets to unlock or to discover in Rayman Redemption, the incredible fanmade remake of Rayman 1! I already made a list on the Rayman Pirate-Community, but it wasn’t as extensive and it’s lost among pages of a topic, so it wouldn’t be useful on the long-term…

This colourful guide covers all unlockables and secrets from the game! So, this includes levels, skins, upgrades, achievements, cheat codes, and the easter eggs. As such, there’ll be quite a lot of very obvious things like the main levels you’ll unlock throughout the adventure, but these had to be included to make this a complete guide. Of course, this list contains some spoilers, and so I advise you to play most of the game first before reading it!

If you want a detailed guide to complete each level and find every item such as Cages, Gifts or Magician Tokens, this isn’t the place where to look… However, I have a full playthrough of the game (and its demo) completed to 100% (achievements all included)! Otherwise, the best advice I can give you is to use the locators which you can buy pretty late in the game and then to return to levels where you missed some things.

VI – Easter eggs and extras:

The ‘LUMTINGS’ code is the opportunity to convert the game to the Rayman 2 style!

A – Fight the Virus:

A graffiti with the message ‘Fight the Virus’ coming with a Super Power can be found in a level of each main world. Here are their locations!

Moskito’s Nest – Section 3 (found towards the end by using a Plum to cross the water area).

Mr. Sax’s Hullaballoo – Section 1 (found on a hidden cloud which you access by climbing up the second flute located in the area with two slopes on top of each other. Ignore the shrinking fairy on the first flute and keep going up to spawn a cloud platform which will lead you to the secret).

Mr. Stone’s Peaks – Section 3 (found behind the platform of spikes at the beginning of the second area with rising water. You’ll have to crawl and let yourself get damaged to reach the secret).

Space Mama’s Crater – Section 1 (can be reached from a platform which spawns between the two ‘useless’ pillars in the small area where you must crawl. The platform’s trigger will only activate when you complete the extra sector blocked by a pencil sharpener at its top).

Eat at Joe’s – Section 2 (found near the beginning of the section in the darkness, somewhere on a high platform which you can reach by jumping in the first chasm and by using a newly spawned platform to reach the Pink Rings above).

The Playhouse – Section 1 (found in a hidden area located in the bottom right of the huge open place with many rings. You’ll have to carefully move downward the basketball found near the Checkpoint until you can use it as a platform to enter the hidden location).

Mr. Dark’s Dare – Section 3 (found near the end of the level on the high platform which had no use in the original game. You’ll have to survive Mr. Dark’s running curse then backtrack to the last Checkpoint where you’ll find a new candy platform which will take you to the secret).

Otherwise, this video of mine is a very good guide to help you find all of them (skip to 6:38 in the video to see the locations)! It also showcases all cheat codes and most other secrets!

By the way, these secrets are not a reference to the coronavirus (as it’s just a bad coincidence), but are a reference to an identical message from the cancelled SNES version of the original Rayman. This text can also be seen on the wall of the Game Over from Rayman 1 and this remake.

The graffiti is visible right above the ‘BOO!’ in the middle of the screen.

B – Hidden words:

RAY:

Rayman’s shortened name (‘Ray’) is hidden in the environment of some levels (most notably in the Swamps of Forgetfulness, Bongo Hills and Twilight Gulch).

‘Remember, it’s Rayman, not Ray!’
NICE:

Ring Toss Tussle, the last bonus challenge of Band Land, contains a hidden word (‘NICE!!’) which can be found by reaching the top of the level (either by glitches [according to Ryemanni], either by using the ‘HELIPOWR’ cheat).

THANKS FOR PLAYING:

Finally, a message thanking you for playing the game can be found in the Lonely Cliff before or after the end of the story. Climb to the top of the cliff (with the help of all the Pink Helpers) then build up as much speed as possible with the snow to make a long jump to the left edge of the level. If you succeed, you should reach a platform and some clouds leading you to the secret will spawn one after another.

THANKS FOR PLAYING 👀

C – Tips:

Beat Greek Mama faster:

Did you know? You can hit Space Mama twice whenever you get the opportunity to attack during the second fight against her. With this technique, you can skip the very hard final phase!

Beat the Spider Master faster:

Spider Master can also be hit twice whenever it becomes vulnerable. It’s hard to have the proper timing, but it’ll make the fight way shorter! You can also entirely skip this boss by going inside the secret section which contains Michel Ancel’s head (more details further down below).

‘Cheat’ in Brain Games:

Did you know? During the part with the rising water in Brain Games, the decorative green stud pillars are placed below each correct answer! Very useful to get to that Cage behind the door afterwards which requires you to beat this part without making any mistake!

Explore the Frying Pan’s areas on foot:

By using the cheat code to fly (‘HELIPOWR’) and by going high enough above the walls of sparkles which end the sliding phases with the Frying Pan, you can go behind them and so have the freedom to explore these areas on foot. This code is also very useful generally to freely explore nearly any location in the game. Note that this only works in the Sweet Spot since the wall in Mr. Dark’s Dare cannot be passed.

Make Dark Rayman appear in his Game Boy Color version:

Did you know? If you use Dark Rayman’s skin while you are being chased by the evil doppelganger, the latter will switch his own appearance to his colours from the Game Boy Color version! This is also a very helpful detail added to the game to prevent both Rayman and Dark Rayman from appearing identical in case you opted for his look! However, using any other skin, including GBC Dark Rayman, won’t change in any away the appearance of the clone. But there’s an exception to this rule during the True Boss Rush, as using this very same GBC skin while fighting Dark Rayman will make him revert to his normal appearance (his icon will not change, however).

All of this also works in Rayman ReDesigner (however, in the oldest versions of the game, it was the SNES skin which transformed Dark Rayman due to a mistake).

Gain the ‘Trap Master’ achievement while retaining your sanity:

Just cheat… That’s it, you’ll get the achievement as long as you don’t take any ‘damage’ (since no damage is taken into account when you’re invincible). Aside from that, falling in the water in the final main section doesn’t count as damage, as proven by the second time I got this achievement. Yes. I had to do it twice without cheating since I didn’t record the game the first time I played it… I doubly want to die. :’)

D – Noseless Rayman:

GIVE ME YOUR NOSE.

Noseless Rayman’s head makes two appearances in the game. The first one is found in the Lair of the Chessmaster’s dark section, behind a wall near one of the first Cages.

The other head is found right after the hidden message in the Lonely Cliff.

If you don’t know Noseless Rayman, he’s a creepy and funny version of Rayman created by Ryemanni and who got three tiny horror games just for himself (The Spooky Raymansion trilogy, also made by Ryemanni). There’s also another reference to him which you can find by entering the code ‘NOSELESS’.

👀 👀 👀👀👀

E – Globox:

No matter how many times he will be ‘removed’, Globox will always come back…

A funny picture of Globox can be found at the end of the ‘empty’ area in the third section’s final part of Eat at Joe’s (the same part which is later used for the fifth section). You’ll have to make very careful jumps to bounce on invisible platforms scattered in this place and by moving quickly through the spikes. A picture of Globox with the message ‘I LIVE’ will be found where you’ll usually find the Exit Sign available later once you restore the cave’s power. If it’s too hard for you, you can use the infinite helicopter cheat code.

This is a joke tied to the many demands to put Globox into the game and to the humorous texts added in the changelogs of the game’s final updates (the easter egg itself was added in the penultimate update: version 1.1.3). Those texts are also a reference to the ‘Removed Herobrine’ running gag inserted in Minecraft’s changelogs after the beginning of the urban legends about the character.

Video demonstration of the Globox and Ring Toss Tussle easter eggs:

F – Michel Ancel:

The head of Rayman’s creator, Michel Ancel, can be found in a hidden section of Eat at Joe’s. To reach it, you’ll have to hang on to some invisible platforms right before the spider boss in the fourth section. You’ll find yourself in a secret tunnel where Michel Ancel awaits Rayman at the end to try -in vain- to eat him… Just like Globox, this secret wasn’t available in the first versions of the full game (it was added in version 1.1.0).

The invisible platforms can be reached by standing near the ground right before the entrance of the boss’s area and by jumping as far as possible to the right.

G – Secret ’ending’:

By entering the code ‘TOBEYOND’, you’ll get to witness an extra scene tying the game to Rayman 2. It’s a black screen with dialogues of some pirates discovering Rayman’s world and deciding to invade it. The scene is then concluded by an extract of music from Rayman 2 The Great Escape and you’ll be sent back to the world map. The code and the scene going with it have also been added in the final versions of the game (version 1.1.1 to be exact).

Video demonstration of the scene and of the penultimate discovered code (‘REDESIGN’):

For the little trivia, I’m the first known person to have found this secret (as well as the code related to Rayman ReDesigner), and so this video above is the first to have ever documented all of this! … Yes, I’m totally bragging about something utterly insignificant, but it’s my favourite Rayman and Rayman is the most precious game franchise of my childhood, so, come on, let me have this moment. 😛

H – Unused content:

Various unused contents can be found in the game’s files. Among them, you’ll most notably find a test level, the sprites of some creatures (cave bats, the Woodbot boss, etc.) as well of some objects (such as the venom projectiles which were intended to be used for two bosses). You can find these contents by using something like UndertaleModTool to check the ‘data.win’ file of the game. Keep in mind that some of these things were removed in the most recent versions of the game, so there are a few things you can’t find in versions 1.1.0, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, and 1.1.4. There are also more unused contents in the game’s Gameplay Demo. You can learn more about all those things in some posts of this topic.

You can also find out more about unused contents and on the game’s prototypes and secrets by looking at the postmortem stream of Rayman Redemption made by Ryemanni, the creator. But be warned that it’s extremely long

So, that’s it for this list! If you can think of ways to improve it, feel free to tell me in the comments!

Thanks for reading and have a nice day, fellow heroes with a nose bigger than your head! ^^
